Simple Joy

Sunshine recently asked me to make her a sock puppet, after seeing one on an episode of Blue's Clues.  She picked out a sock and buttons for eyes, that I sewed on, and she was very happy with her bright idea.  It was a quick and simple project for me, that brought her lots of joy.  It even impressed Love-bug, which is a tough feat that Sunshine often strives for.

What's for Dinner?

My girls love to ask me what's for dinner.  Sometimes, just out of curiosity, or as a hint that they are ready to eat.  For my little Sunshine, this is an opportunity to figure out if it's something she wants to eat and to then begin her campaign to get something more suited to her current picky palate.  She usually loses that campaign, but this doesn't stop her from trying.  Because I know this is usually her plan, I try to remain vague on what's for dinner.

Recipe: Vegan Cornbread Muffins

This article/recipe was a big hit on a previous, now defunct blog.  I'm sharing it again here for those that may be looking for it....

I have many interests, or in some cases mild obsessions, that I plan to share.  The one I am sharing today falls under one of my favorite topics - FOOD!  More specifically, cornbread.  I looove cornbread.  In my opinion, it is an anytime food.  You can eat it as a side to any meal, or alone as a snack.  You can add a condiment, like butter, jelly, cream cheese, etc. or just enjoy it as is.  They are great warm from the oven or once cooled to room temperature.  I can go on and on….

3 Year Old Confidence

Another story from the archives, featuring Sunshine....

I was grocery shopping in Trader Joe's with my 3 year old today, when she noticed another girl (about 10 years old), shopping with her mother.  We crossed paths a few times in the store and the other girl would smile or wave at my daughter, who would wave back.  This went on for a while until my little girl finally asked me why the other girl kept staring at her.  I told her that I didn't know.  She immediately responded, nonchalantly, "Maybe it's because I'm cute."  I couldn't argue with that!

If there's one thing my 3 year old is, it's confident.  Or, maybe she's so confident because she's 3.  Either way, I love it!!

Macaroni and Cheese

Here's a cute story of something that happened about a year ago, featuring Love-bug.  I originally published this on a blog I shared with my cousins.  We are now venturing into other things, but I wanted this story to remain documented here....

Elsa's Braid, Sort Of

Mondays are usually pretty quiet days for us.  After dropping Love-bug at school, my 3 year old and I usually stay in so I can take care of things at home (chores, online banking, phone calls, etc.).  However, we always make time for play.  Today, typical of many days since we've seen the movie Frozen, Sunshine has been obsessed with the song "Let It Go".  She heard a father at this morning's school drop off mention that he would play the song for his daughter in the car, so she asked to hear it.  She usually does her performances a capella, but today it was done to music, courtesy of YouTube.  In between her performances, she asked to have her hair in one side braid, like Elsa wore hers when she let her hair down in the movie.  This was not the first time she's asked for hair like Elsa or Anna (the main characters), but today I decided to give it a try.  I explained that her hair may not be long enough to look exactly like Elsa's, but the sad look on her face made me determined to make it work.  I think it came out pretty cute and she was very happy with it!  I thought I'd document it in case anyone has a similar request from their little one who doesn't have enough hair, or if you're not able to french braid to accomplish Elsa's exact hairstyle.

Convenient Cry

My girls, like the true drama queens they are, don’t really think there’s an inconvenient time to cry.  My 6 year old is starting to feel that there are times where crying is not the thing she wants to do, but sometimes it happens anyway.  And when that happens, it will be a quiet cry, sometimes with her face buried.  Although, at home, she cries out loud with abandon.  My 3 year old will cry out loud anytime, anywhere.  I often wonder how old I was when I decided that I didn’t want to cry publicly.  Have you ever thought about that?  I’m not talking about funerals and such.  I mean those times when something is on your mind that causes you to be emotional when you think about it, but you’re at work or driving your kids somewhere and it’s just not the time to start crying.
